What is Pelvic Tilt in Sports?
Pelvic tilt refers to the position and movement of the pelvis in relation to the spine and femurs. In sports, the two most common dysfunctional types are:
Anterior Pelvic Tilt (APT): The front of the pelvis drops and the back rises, often creating an excessive arch in the lower back.
Posterior Pelvic Tilt (PPT): The back of the pelvis drops and the front rises, often flattening the lumbar spine.
Pelvic tilt influences posture, movement efficiency, and load transfer in nearly every sport—especially in baseball, tennis, volleyball, sprinting, and weightlifting.
Why is it Bad?
Limits Power Output:
Poor pelvic positioning disrupts the kinetic chain, making it harder to transfer force from the legs to the upper body (important in hitting, throwing, jumping, etc.).Reduces Range of Motion:
A locked or tilted pelvis limits hip mobility, affecting lunges, squats, swings, and changes of direction.Creates Compensation Patterns:
The body works around pelvic dysfunction by overusing the lower back, knees, or shoulders, leading to breakdowns elsewhere.Increases Injury Risk:
Chronic tilt leads to imbalances and stress on the lumbar spine, hamstrings, hip flexors, and groin—common injury sites for athletes.Destroys Postural Efficiency:
Athletes with pelvic tilt often appear “disconnected” in their stance or stride, lacking core engagement and stability.
How Can the KAT Fix It?
The KAT system can be attached to at the hips and/or lower spine to detect and alert the wearer to faulty pelvic positioning in real time:
Buzzes when the pelvis tilts too far anterior or posterior
Helps athletes learn neutral pelvis position during key actions like sprinting, lifting, throwing, or landing
Reinforces core engagement and postural control through awareness and repetition
Supports movement retraining by giving the athlete clear, actionable cues to adjust their body mid-rep
By training what proper pelvic positioning feels like, athletes develop stronger, more connected movement mechanics that transfer across all sport
TIP FOR USE – IMPORTANT!
KAT is not for all-day wear. It’s designed for short, focused use during specific drills to sharpen motor control. By layering real-time feedback over natural sensations—like joint angles, muscle stretch, and air on the skin—KAT helps athletes tune into how their body moves. Use it intermittently, a few minutes at a time, woven into regular practice for high-quality reps that build lasting body awareness.
