The firmware is the code inside the KAT device that instructs it how to operate with thr KAT App.  Just like the KAT app needs to be updated occaisionally, so does the KAT's firmware.

In the near future, the KAT app will update your KAT device's firmware automatically via bluetooth. This is called and over the air (OTA) firmware update.
