One way of describing a movement adaptation strategy is 'moving differently to achieve some movement goal.'

Limping, in some ways, is moving differently to achieve a movement goal. Specifically, it is getting your body from A to B without your foot/leg/knee hurting,

Another example is when carrying something heavy, switching from one hand to the other hand so your muscles dont fatigue  as quickly. This is an efficient way to re-distribute the load to your body's  available resources, specifically the fuel your body uses (glycogen).
